McCalls 8104

I had mixed feelings about this pattern due to the fit my daughter experienced on her version. I gave it a try since I bought 4 of them on an online sale. Always check your cart

I used an Ankara fabric from my local Pings Fabric store. My local Pings seems so small, but it always has what I need. Anyway, lo and behold L lost a few pounds and the dress fits beautifully.

Scuba Dooby Do

My poor daughter. I made this dress for her because the graphic print and fortitude of this fabric spoke hee name. The only problem was that i wore it and the scuba material was surprisingly cool and comfortable. The belt tie within the dress is a game changer. Now it seems we’ll have to share😄.

i believe i bought this material at JoAnns’ in Houston, Texas.

Simplicity 8658

Hacking heaven. This is my leftover material go to pattern. The dolman sleeves suit my sloped shoulders to a Tee. The neckline needs only biased tape and there are so many options. Each make is so comfortable and the pattern pieces adaptable to scraps of fabric. The pattern features:

High low hems, swallow tail hem, ruffles on sleeves, hems, or in dolman sleeves.

These are some of my manifestations🤣.

Simplicity 9114 ala Mimi G

This is my second run at this fabulous duster by Mimi G. The next time I am in the US I will add the glorious sheer, sequined concoction I made for my daughter from this pattern.

I made this up with an Ankara wax print I purchased on AliExpress.com.

Mimi G had done a sew along with this duster and that is where I got the idea to turn the stripes perpendicular to one another in the garment. I think the result is striking.

Apres the Sew:

I think I will make different pants and a cami to go under this duster. I have seen Mimi style this with ripped jeans. And a white cami.

Vogue 1802

This dress is exquisite! I made it with that delicious midnight blue material I found at Pings. I originally bought 5 yards because I love Navy blue. However, the hand and sheen of the fabric drew me back to the store where I bought what was left on the roll. It was not expensive. I think it was a bridal leftover . It was a delight to sew. The pattern features a back bow, dropped waist, and set in pockets.

This dress was inspired by the blocked dress that where on trend this season. I had ordered some double gauze from Mood Fabric, but before I received the fabric (which was yummy by the way) I spotted this eyelet fabric at Pings (my local fabric store. It sewed up like a dream and is one of my favorites to wear.

Apres the Sew or What I would edit:

I would have brought the princess hem up in the back about 1 inch to facilitate flats.

Fuchsia Infusion:Tom and Linda Platt Vogue

I have had a love affair with Tom and Linda Platt for so many years. I have acquired about 12 of their patterns over the years. Everything they do is very spare, architectural, and clean lined.

Originally, I had selected this pattern and fabric for my son’s wedding. Mel his fiancé was using “jewel” tones for the wedding. Due to Covid 19 the wedding is rescheduled for next year and the color palette has changed to jades and peaches. I’m not sure where I will be wearing this dress, but I’m sure it will be worn with pleasure.
